Playstation Portable Discussion Thread

Post  Starlight on Fri Jul 08, 2011 2:39 pm

This'll be interesting...as it's known as a JRPG console due to how many it gets but I've seen loads of cool games on it.

Needless to say, when it first launched my bro had it thinking it'll be like the PS2 but it turned out not to be so great with driving games and stuff...he sold it and I regrettably never bought it from him.

I got mine in 2009 (I think) and have played it possibly more then my DS....sure the DS has good games but to me they never last very long...unless it was Puyo Puyo, Sonic or Tetris.

So yeah....probably has the least shovelware on it whist maintaining a modest library.

Any thoughts?

I got mine after my brother found one in a bush. That broke months later and after getting a replacement to play Birth By Sleep with, upgraded to a PSP 3000 in april. I quite enjoy the console although I don't have much of a library for it at the moment.

I bought a used PSP 1000 a few months ago.
So far greatly enjoyed KH:BBS and P3P on it.
LBP and Untold Legends were alright.

I also want SMT: Persona, Lunar, MGS (both/all,) and God of War (both)

Shouldn't this be under Video Games and not Retro Gaming. Vita isn't out yet....

Anywho, I bought mine this year and I really do enjoy it. I've got a modest library of games for it but I plan on expanding that slowly. Wink I think around 20-30 should be a good number. xD

Honestly I couldn't say whether I like it better than DS or not. For me it's rather hard to have preferences as I tend to like all my systems equally and each of them have some pretty good games that I have really enjoyed and/or am looking forward to playing. The only preference I do have is handhelds > consoles so I definitely love my DS and PSP a bit more than the PS3 and Wii.

What I really do appreciate is the ability to play PS1 Classics on the PSP and the fact that I need only purchase it once and have it on both PS3 and PSP. Very Happy

It's getting there....especially when there is no news on even the niche games being localized here like the Wii scenario. (Still waiting on Valk 3)

I tend to play games unevenly but I do use them all when I find a game I really want to play...it's just the PSP has more of what I want them the PSP.

Since you now live in the EU, you won't be getting a great PSN line up on the store thanks to SCEE's lack of interest in the PS1 classics.

@Terra: lol....nice find in a bush!

Yeah, certainly a more interesting way of getting a games console. Fingers crossed that someone leaves a new Xbox 360 in a random bush now, need to replace my current one xD

Tactics Ogre is amazing! Everyone who has a PSP and doesn't have this game should be ashamed. :p
TO: LUCT is really good. It plays like FFT, but .. better. I don't know. It's hard to describe xD

You know, I never really got into anything on the PSP. Mostly for the fact that it's my fiance's, but I have no idea what's on it worth playing.

I'd recommend (based off what I've played and heard)
Persona 3 Portable
LBP
Kingdom Hearts: BBS
The 3rd Birthday
God of War
Metal Gear Solid (anything Razz)

I'll pick this apart, and perhaps someone can press the recommendations or withdraw a few. Razz

The Persona series, I've never touched. By the time I played through a great deal of my fiance's RPGs, I just got tired of them. I got tired of the grinding, the back-and-forth traveling, etc. So, I dunno if Persona is going really amazing or just another RPG.

Is LBP on the PSP the same as on the PS3/PSN? 'Cause I have that one, and I do like that game a lot.

3rd Birthday looks good though I've never played the other Parasite Eve games. Is the series in general worth playing? Do I have to play the first two to enjoy 3?

Don't like God of War or Metal Gear Solid or Kingdom Hearts (so far).

LBP PSP is just like the PS3 game, only its single-player focused. In my opinion, the controls are a little tighter so I enjoyed it more. All original content too (new levels not just a port)

3rd Birthday can be played by itself from what I know. It plays very differently from PE1 and PE2 which can only be a good thing Razz (they were good but flawed)

HMM. study study study
From what I found in my psp backlog collection, the ones that I think are the best have already been mentioned, but there is one that I never got all the way through but sounded very interesting. It plays like a strategy game;

Jeanne D'Arc

The story is vastly different from her actual life, so check it out! (Not saying that her actual life was boring, but it ended with her dying at the stake so...) *spoiler alert* Very Happy

@Starlight: No worries, I'm sticking to NA PSN. In fact for this gen (+3DS), I'll still have mostly NA games via importing. It may be a bit more expensive, but I'm still sort of partial to my old region. xD

Oh, I just noticed that! xD
Most of my other sites I use are already updated. ^^;;;;;
*goes to change her location*

To keep on topic, has anyone played Trails in the Sky? I've heard it's suppose to be really good but I think I'm going to wait for part two before I play part one just to avoid the cliff-hanger at the end of part one. I don't think I can wait around a year....Golden Sun was bad enough. D:

Any games you guys are looking forward to before PSP goes out?
