It's almost D-Day....

Post  Terra on Sun Jun 05, 2011 7:31 pm

So guys, Duke Nukem Forever is nearly upon us at last after a long 14 years. I've got my copy pre-ordered (Balls of Steel Edition too), any of you guys pre-ordering as well? I have to say, it's looking pretty sweet.

I didnt pre-order it nor do I plan to buy it right away but I prolly will get it down the road. I like shooters but I don't like them $60 like them.

Fair enough really. I wasn't planning to pre-order it myself at first but then my brother offered to give £30 towards it so I basically said "F*** it, let's go for it".

I still don't believe that Duke Nukem Forever is almost out. It feels so...unreal. I guess I'll wait until it gets cheaper.

Ladies and gentlemen, D-Day has arrived in the UK. I'm expecting my copy to have arrived by the time I get home today, let's see if this was indeed worth the 14 year wait after all.

Tell us what you think of the game after playing it, Terra. As for me, I tried the demo on PC and it felt...a little empty after 14 years.

I think the anticipation behind it might be a factor in that. It's not so much a question of whether the game is good but whether it'll have been worth the 14 years, there's a lot of weight behind it and there's bound to be some disappointment from some people.

I'll give it a shot later on and put my impressions down here.

Reviews have been mediocre to bad so far. I hope it's the hype disappointing more than the real quality.

I'm enjoying it personally, it's a good game. Not perfect by any means but I am betting that it's the hype around it that's causing the disappointment for others, it's very hard to live up to expectations like those. They say gameplay is a bit dated from what I've seen (Given the 14 year development, can't say I'm surprised) but I like it.

It's definitely more fun than stuff like COD imo. Not because of gameplay necessarily (I've only played MW2 properly before but I can't deny it) but it has more personality than a lot of other shooters and can be quite funny. Others don't have that and just feel like the developers were trying to be "Self-important" or too serious. This is why I like the Serious Sam games as well.

I'd be quite interested to see some sales figures for the game in about a week, could prove enlightening.

I don't regret my pre-order for it, even if it was fairly expensive and it's definitely a game I'll be holding onto/

Funny thing is that DNF has elements that resemble these modern shooters. For starters, you can only hold TWO weapons. I don't know how are you guys with it, but I want to carry all kinds of crazy weapons in my back pocket.

And the EGO meter is sorta like an health-regen stuff, just like in CoD.

Do yourself a favor and don't play DNF on consoles. From what I've heard it's actually better on PCs; the loading times are faster, aiming is better and the framerate issues are not as bad as on consoles.

Holy moly, DNF just got served by many gaming sites. 3.0 out of 10? 3.5 out of 10? Come on, it's not that bad.

Ninty just stated it's the Sonic 2006 of 2011. XD

But I may look into this to see what has happened in the 14 years in development...from me getting my Playstation to now talking on the internet.

Pretty much, but it's far more enjoyable than Sonic 06. Razz
